Description Shishkebab. Because some bad ideas are so dumb they should be celebrated.

The Shishkebab was a design created by a friend for a Mekton game (now there's your first mistake!). The design was a bimodal hovercraft with stub wings and a giant spear on the front. The wings could turn into arms with clawed hands, or into legs. Its only ranged weapons were smoke missiles.

The idea was that the Shishkebab (and yes, that was it's in-world game) would use the smoke missiles to cover its advance, then charge and impale its enemy with its spear. Then it would turn its wings into arms and dismember them while they were impaled.

Of course, building your mech around a single, very narrowly defined attack plan is never a good idea; it all depended on having a good clear run to your opponent and on other things like, say, them not shooting back. Furthermore, there was nothing stopping their opponent form shooting the Shishkebab at point-blank range once impaled. Or, for that matter, punching them back.

The Shishkebab was a dumb idea. Melee mecha are a dumb idea in general, but it was an over-specialised dumb idea.

However, the idea was so ludicrous and so psychedelically ineffective in actual play that I had to do a sketch of it during one play session. So here it is!

Not sure on the date, but this art is probably c1998 or so.
