Winter. Prey is scarce and threats hang overhead like thick fog. The illness is still fresh in Betony's mind and the recent deaths, clouded in mystery much like the forest around him, is cause for concern.
Betony isn't blind to the plights of the island and the looming threats, but he can still find beauty in the things around him. As he strays from the warmth of his den to search for the day's scant meal, he finds his surroundings peaceful and enjoys a moment of contentment despite the rumblings in his stomach. There may be trouble, but the quiet minutes in between offer some peace from the unseen storms.
