Elementals: Unlike other spieces all mermen/ Merwomen are able to use the Water/Ice Element, sometimes they can have a second element but this is usually caused by breeding outside of their speicies. But its not always true/ about 1 in 100,000 can be born naturally with a differen't element. This also can be certin families that are known to use other elements.
Offspring: Like Dragons Mermaids lay eggs for 3 weeks they can lay anywhere from 5-34 eggs the most common amount is nine eggs. Mostly due to predators/ in their natural enviorment only about 3 the most strongest bigger eggs would survive out of a clutch.

They are able to live and adapt to underwater Environments including genetically and physically able to change their characteristics using magic, they can for example change their left arm into a weapon by altering their flesh with their minds. They are also able to breathe through water, swim at high endurance, pressure and extreme pressure by altering their body shapes. They can also use their magic to change color by being in an environment say if the water was red their skin and body would be able to change red.
Limitations: Those that have a shark body cannot shape shift into a squid or alter into shark form. They are limited to one animal shape per individual. if they use up all of their magic they can replenish it by eating prey but say if they shape shift half of their body to fight against the cold then they can drown or freeze to death, so its not exactly a good idea to use up all your magic at once.
Mermaids have a natural ability to see under water and during the night by altering their eye shape, all Mermaids are able to shift between their natural eye color and cat like pupils/ lizard/ dragon like ones.
Energy Detection: Mermaids have detectors put on their body that can make them sense the approaching enemies, or prey they can also sense magic when it is used and have a higher sense of searching for enemies.
Cold Immunity: Only by living in cold or frigidity climates or near them can they be able to swim in icy waters/ their natural environment claims to warmer temperature except in colder times during winter which is only two months.
Animal Blessing: Some are able to speak to animals and can control them these individuals do not eat meat for obvious reasons
Health Issues: When a Merfolk is sick their scales will go dull and no longer be shiny their hair will become greasy and they will smell a lot, they also will have damage to their scales/ flesh. This can be caused from depression/ as well as lack of proper nutrition as well. Generally those with this aperance will be taken care of by the entire House that they serve under.
Rug Rot: Rug rot is a parasitic infection caused by a low immune system and eating infected prey the only way to remove Rug Rot is to flush the system with drugs. (antibotics) To fight off the infection and kill the parasitics.
