Alter-Verse Chasm is a different beast compared to canon, for many reasons.Starting off, Chasm is not Ben Reilly! He's his own entity. Specifically, he is a demon.
He serves the purpose of a Predator, hunting down those connected to the Web of Life and Destiny. He does this to absorb their life force, taking on a similar role to The Inheritors.
He's not actually wearing a suit, that is his skin. When he feeds, the "mask" becomes a black void that sucks up life force.
Instead of Psycho-reactive goo, his energy powers are a mixture of Hell Energy and Ecto Energy.
Many of his "hunting techniques" are inspired by real spiders. He can rush down targets like a Wolf Spider, wait in a hole like a Trapdoor Spider, drop down with a net like an Ogre Faced Spider, even taking some notes from the Diving Bell Spider in having underwater dens.
When all know of Chasm, let them run. Let them hide. Let them fight. They only do so, to delay their inevitable fate.
