Description Watercolor on paper.

2013

Inspired by Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven"
The crow on the woman's shoulder represents reality- stable, constant; the murder of crows flying above her head represents the unstoppable nature of ideas.Β  The Raven may have only known how to speak one word, but the lamenting lover chose to make his grief worse by imagining the Ravens meaning.Β  This painting represents Lenore as an idea rather than a person, an idea of suffering, an idea of eternal torment; because of her lovers desperate reaction to her death, he could be mourning the loss from his life, not the loss of hers. The message is to love someone for who they are, not for who you wish they were, otherwise grief may never leave you.
