Description
Just west of downtown Paris, IL, is Midland Junction. We're looking south down the NYC Cairo Line at the crossing of the old NYC Indianapolis-St.Louis main. NYC "A" Tower was along the double-track main a little to the east. PRR's Peoria Secondary crossed the Cairo Line just to the south, and crossed the mains just to the west.Today, however, the old Cairo line ends a few miles south of here, and the former double-track main ends 2 miles west of here at the remnants of Midland Yard. CSX owns both lines, and uses the east leg (left) to get between Decatur, IL and Terre Haute, IN. And PRR's Peoria Secondary is naught but a line of old ties at best, and trees at worst.
