That reminds me of the bit in The Andromeda Strain (it was in both the book and the movie) where the woman scientist who has visually-triggered epilepsy misses the fact that the alien virus can't grow under certain conditions, because the flashing red text on her computer screen notifying her of the "no growth" situation triggered a petit mal episode (basically, the person just freezes and becomes effectively unconscious).
