Description This is forΒ Hyrotrioskjan 's spec evo contest.

Anyone remember little Drepanosaurus? the not-lizard that wanted to be an anteater and a woodpecker at the same time? well here's not-so-little Drepanosaurus who wanted to be a wyrm and a vulture at the same time. How did drepanosaurs get to skull island let alone survive long into the cenozoic there? idk, but somewhere along the way they had to leave their tree homes in favor of the dirt to feast on the subteranean buggies. For this they evolved some of the traits you see here: their claws became more akin to moles, their hind legs were gradually lost having no need for them in their slow pace, in their place the legs resorbed into two stubs similar to that of male pythons. This coupled with scuts prevented them from being dragged backwards in the event something tries to pull them out, and their faces became hardened with keratin to work as a shovel. the claw at the end of their tail was companied by modified scales creating a prickly surface for further protection. As we all know, skull island has some pretty big ass bugs. Bigger prey = Bigger predators. The drepanosaurs grew in size on their giant bug diet, but also the danger. The scuts specialized even more into hard armour, their keratin facial plate calcified and the eyehole enlargened into a false eye to protect the face. Soon the drepanosaurs were emerging from the ground and hunting new prey: Vertebrates. They lay in their burrow, tail curled ready to thrust them forward in a quick motion. When prey passed by they'd grab it with their claws and begin eating. This caused a false-beak to form as to ease the eating process. If prey small enough came by they would be ensnared by a long tongue and quickly devoured. Eventually they began hunting out of their holes as well, becoming ambush predators still relying on their muscular tails for a boost of snake-like speed and tackling their desired prey. Claws and beak primed for disembowling. Their predatory adaptations became all the more fearsom with the development of serrations on their false beak and a toothy tongue. Today this armoured sharpened monster serves as an apex ambush predator on the island, their only threats remaining are the giant primates that slaughter their young for sport, driving them back underground for periods of time.

This is amazing! It may not be quite as off-the wall as an eyestalk-walking Tully monster, but it's close enough AND arguably more realistic too.

Very nice, I did a huge flightless pterosaur. Didn't expect to see drepanosaurs though, I like it!

hat's a way more original origin than mine ! You really took advantage of the drepanosaurids weirdness ! Plus the whole design would perfectly fit in a Kaiju series. It reminds me of some Gamera monsters. ^^ All in all, impressive work !

We need more drepanosaurs in speculative evolution. Great work!

That is actually a very creative idea!
