Description Arches National Park - Sand Dune Arch

Up beyond Sand Dune Arch is an amazing canyon that is a scramblers paradise. But more on that in a moment.

Looking up into this canyon are a series of fins that are also identifiable as proto-arches in the making (the narrow lines of rock that start at the center-bottom and continue straight up the middle of the image). Although it is hard to imagine, in a few millennia these columns of rock will create some spectacular arches of their own, comparable to Sand Dune Arch in beauty and accessibility. Although time and erosion play a sad role of destroying these formations, they in turn create more by the same process. In a way these rocks are alive, always changing with the Earth.
