Description
Based on a true story, part 5 out of 5.Part 1: Minimal Embarrassment pt. 1
The story was slightly altered so that I didn't have to draw additional pages or weaken the impact. In reality, like three students shared Latin connections before I did, and when I tried doing standup in front of the class, my Latin teacher actually said "Can you meet me after class?" which honestly hits just as hard, and then after class he told me "That's not funny, that didn't happen, something else." In case anyone's confused, latin connections were weekly presentations where you had to present an example of Latin being used in modern day, also my example of the Charlotte National Building May or may not have been the actual connection that I shared that day, it was like two years ago. I was also paraphrasing the bits with John Mulaney since that part was exclusive to a show he did in Chicago and isn't documented in the standup routine of Kid Gorgeous available on Netflix.
Side note: I noticed something funny about the Chicago show vs. the one on Netflix. In the Netflix special when he said "...who was a child homicide detective-" and then cut himself off and said "Oh I'm sorry Radio City, did that make you uncomfortable?" But in the Chicago show, when he said "...who was a child homicide detective-" the theater burst into laughter, and John Mulaney actually stopped for a few seconds and then said "I'm sorry Chicago, is that something that's FUNNY to you?" I noticed that that was different when watching the Netflix version and it was the first time I'd ever gotten the sense that these shows were rehearsed and planned, since in the Netflix special, John Mulaney didn't even wait more than a few seconds before saying his next line and didn't seem to wait for the audience reaction. Funny, that.
