Description

The first rays of morning light peaked through buildings as Renley walked the streets of San Mateo de los Agustinos. Soon, the first brave souls would venture out into the morning, some to go about their daily work or the braver ones might choose to investigate the mayor’s former residence. Her takeover of the place hadn’t exactly been subtle considering some of Hawthorne’s men were quite gung-ho when firing their guns.

It took some time but Renley had been able to whittle out Hawthorne’s men one by one, even managing to get her slice of vengeance against the sniper that had shot her in the head, not that there were any visible marks of said headshot. Marcus had holed up in one of the more secure rooms in the basement. The crime lord didn’t know just what he had in his possession. He would have thought it a simple priceless artifact and while it was indeed priceless, it also had a more sinister use. One that the Orden de Escalante was adamant from falling into the wrong hands. Alone it was an artifact of ominous magical properties. Were it to be combined with its other half then it could be used to open a gateway to malevolent places better left locked away.

After retrieving the artifact, Renley had sent a message to her handler and awaited further instructions on where she was meant to take it for collection. As for Hawthorne, Renley had left the man powerless and bound as well as a note stuck to his head for the mayor to read. There was a sizable international bounty for the crime lord and Renley figured that San Mateo would benefit from collecting said bounty.

It was while waiting for a reply from her handler that Renley found herself drawn to a quiet spot with a view that overlooked San Mateo. Resting her case against the wall, Renley took a moment to take in the sight. She watched the sun as it slowly rose over the horizon, observing as the light rays peeked through the mountains and dispersed across San Mateo. The sky was awash with colors that bled from hues of yellow to red set alight by the rising sun.

Centuries had passed and Renley still had some conflicting emotions regarding this country and land. Echoes of the past came to the fore but Renley simply let them go with a sigh. Past or not, Renley could not deny the beauty in certain places such as this. Closing her eyes, Renley let the warmth of the sun wash over her as she stood in an almost meditational silence.

A moment passed and soon a small beep notified her of a reply from her handler. Sure enough, there were details on where she was to take the artifact to be collected and secured as well as a note stating her next assignment. Renley could only chuckle at that.

“Never a dull moment, huh,” She mused to herself before her mind regarded the location of her next assignment.

“New Luxerion…” Renley spared one more look at the sunrise as it fully illuminated San Mateo and the local church’s bells started their morning toll. With another sigh, she picked her case up and slung it over her shoulder, off to follow her instructions as well as pondering the next city she was to go to.
