”Are you ever going to show yourself?” The red head asked, a small frown forming on his face, “Every time I find a good opportunity for you to come out, you’re gone.”

“Soon enough child,” His voice full of mirth as if he found the whole situation to be comical rather than serious. It made Tony frown more as he stared up at the older hybrid as he asked, “You keep saying that! Soon this and soon that, but I’m starting to think you don’t mean it—what are you so afraid of?”

“It’s—“ the basilisk hybrid paused to find the right words and a scowl started to form at his own thoughts. After a moment he finally settled with, “Complicated. A lot of complicated dramas. I’m already in the works of reestablishing a working relationship with an old pet of mine. It’s a bit of a waiting game right now, but he is a key part of my return and until he plays his hand, I’m at a standstill.”

“But why?” Tony asked, feeling more and more confused by the second, “You’ve been meeting with me in secret for all these years! Isn’t this proof enough that you’re not as dangerous as they made you out to be.”

Ethan laughed at that, his breath coming out like a hiss of snake as he muttered, “My reputation will always proceed me, no matter what. I promise, once I get my favorite pet back, I’ll come out to whoever you want me to. Until then, I need you to trust me. Trust my process. Have I led you astray yet?”

“No,” Tony grumbled, looking away, “But you haven’t lead me straight and narrow either.”

“You’re just going to have to trust in me boy.”
