Would you prefer it if we took off our make-up and all semblance of creativity/construction/costume/character and just properly mashed our faces together, lesbian-style? If you get off on lack of pretense, I'd direct you to Youtube. There is plenty of pretense here and most of it is fairly well-thought out.

I think taking Cosplay this far is fetishistic and it is somewhat off--unless you guys are in an actual romantic relationship, in which case it's exhibitionism and there are probably better formats for that than DA if it must be displayed publicly.

I don't think cosplay has to be a fetish--maybe it is for you. For a lot of people, I think it's just fun. I think when it's taken beyond cons and photoshoots then yes, it definitely becomes a fetish. That's probably why I find it disturbing to begin with, and then taking a step farther, into the realm of the definitely sexual, squicks the hell out of me because it seems like something that should be kept private, or like you're saying "this is what we do in our bedroom, now watch!"
On top of THAT, I'm generally of the opinion that cosplay is a sort of acting, and you should bear at least a passing resemblance to the person you're trying to portray, and on that merit alone, I usually hate cosplay, particularly opposite-sex cosplay (there are some exceptions, because some cosplayers bear said resemblance regardless of sex or gender). Also, being gay, I already don't enjoy the sight of women making out, women pretending to be men I would enjoy watching making out is like some kind of weird reverse-feminist "we stole this from you" moment.

Yikes! I see Cosplay as an homage to the character and a chance to get crazy with a sewing machine and have fun. Resemblence is useful but untrue to the fun everyone-can-do-it-if-you-have-the-skills-and-creativity part of the game. Otherwise, it would be like casting for a movie and making a club that only pretty (or selectively ugly) people could get into. It's a hobby and a chance to expand fandom. As for the fetishistic part, whoops. A single kiss was as far as it went, in homage to a pairing we love, and even that was daring on our parts. Sorry you had to see (it) that (way).
Also, it's not all objective fanning for me: I'm solidly gender-queer, and I enjoy creeping into a male persona, but not in an oh-my-god-let's-stop-taking-photos-and-masturbate way. It's fun and freeing. You just don't seem to be the audience for this, and I'm honestly really sorry you stumbled across it. It's not up to me to analyze the fanatical obsession with male homosexuality on the internet, nor girls' desire to appropriate and imitate slash/yaoi/whatever, but safe to say a) it's pretty damn ubiquitous and thus you're going to be very busy hating it, b) we're not aiming to offend. Haruka and Michiru are next on our list, so rest assured we won't be stealing your gay from you any longer. At least until the next shoot.

I've pulled away from fandom so much recently because a lot of it IS appropriation, and it's interesting and I won't get into why, but needless to say (as a man) you find yourself enjoying something and swimming around in this little pool of fandom and everyone is chill. Then all of the sudden whatever you're swimming in suddenly explodes for whatever reason and you find yourself being told "get out of the pool!" because you have a penis. Even though everyone in the pool wants to pretend a good a number of them have penises. I've experienced this over and over again in numerous fandoms. It makes you come to hate certain aspects of fen.

I completely sympathize with your meta; It's mindboggling, how much of it is appropriation (it's like some kind of big female gang sometimes, in certain groups!) and I'm getting to the age where I can't be 100% submersed anymore because of it. Which is healthy, I suppose :3 But no, guy, I'm just sorry that's happened to you, I can totally see where you're coming from. That sucks outrageous-much.
