note: (braids aren't uncommon among men in my universe) she went to all boys school under a false identity, claiming to be a man(there wasn't public education for women at her home region).
After "volunteering" to the army, she kept her disguise as a man to avoid troubles with other servicemen. She was sent to the "all female field gun team" to sort of "keep an eye out on those women" (mysogonistic management).
