Paper Mario/Mario Story sprites for Beanerang Bro, an enemy from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and its 3DS remake, as well as the remake’s Bowser’s Minions mode. This was a request from ColorfulDJ.

Since the Mushroom Kingdom and Beanbean Kingdom are neighbours, it stands to reason some species, whether civil or wild, would inhabit both regions. However, a single species can vary across two regions- you’d have to be insane or a lawyer to deny it. In this case, Beanerang Bro is the Beanbean version of the Boomerang Bro. They chill out on Gwahar Lagoon, throwing their sticks around. They’re so ASSURED about it, too. Forget smog pollution- with those toothy smiles, Beanerang Bros are the leading cause of smug pollution!

In the original release of Superstar Saga, these guys WERE legit Boomerang Bros. By the time the remakes rolled around, an IP team became more strict about the Mario series in general. The unusual (yet thankful) thing about it in relation to these guys, though, is only their species name getting changed. Otherwise, Beanerang Bros got to keep their design and implied relationship to the mainliner Boomerang Bro. Huh…

Alongside their mostly regular coloration, I also gave Beanerang Bro an extra purple palette swap. I did those both to be consistent with my previous Fire/Ice/Boomerang Bro customs, which had alternate color skin to reference Fire Bro’s coloration in Super Mario Bros 3. The other reason is I’ve heard of purple beans, so I thought such a coloration would fit Beanerang Bro.
