Paper Mario redesign sprites for Captain T Ode, a unique Toad character from Paper Mario The Origami King. He is one of the few characters in the eighth gen Paper Mario games to be a mainline species, officially have a true name, and sport a unique design with additional features all at once- the whole shebang.

A legendary captain from the past, T Ode sailed the Great Seas often. Whilst not known if he had conflict from any other pirates from that era, he ticked someone off, as Mario and friends found him stuffed betwixt several strange cold contraptions. With T Ode’s help, the gang could search the Great Sea for the Purple Streamer and other treasures. That said, the gang never learned the deets behind T Ode from the shroom himself. Perhaps that info is in a higher place...

I gave T Ode the pirate hat so he’d have feature parity with the other pirate captains, official or DMZ. In addition, I flipped T Ode’s cap and spot colors so he’d stand out more. Regardless, I still designed this T Ode under the restricted ruleset.

The biggest change, of course, is that sabre T Ode is wielding, as he never actually wielded such a blade, or any blade for that matter, in Origami King. I gave it to him in light of how he stays on the ship rather than help Mario in battle during the Great Sea voyage, just so fans could see one interpretation of how he fights.
Regarding the story behind that sabre, it’s called Nebuloso Blu, said to hold the ocean’s might and unpredictability within. Where could T Ode have found it...?
