As you know I'm quite the notorious outlaw, wanted in 6 counties, for various criminal acts, and my gang, when I rode with them, was known all over the country. It's quieter times but the occasional bounty hunter is still after the price on my head. Usually not a problem, just rookies looking to make a name for themselves.

*Sigh* Even though I've quit my life of crime the government still wants me dead. To set an example. I can't stay in one spot for too long, the bounty hunters will always track me...

Sorry, I got off track. Anyway. A few years ago I was in Rabbit spring, I had heard the governor and his family were in the town on business. My plan was to kidnap his family and get a nice ransom. I was more than prepared for a fight, I had already had a nice bounty on my head, so bounty hunters, law men, the fucking army. I was prepared for it all. But not for him.

I had the governor's family with me on the roof of the doctor's office. Anyone who approached to try to kill me were swiftly taken care of. But. There was an explosion right in the office, the building destroyed, the family gone, in the smoke, I couldn't see but someone grabbed me as I passed out from injuries.

When I awoke, it was night time, and I was in a field. Tied up. The only person around was a ... It was a kid. Couldn't be older than 19, sharpening his knife by a fire. I asked him who he was but he pointed to his throat. There was a large scar running across it. The boy was a mute. I said thanks for saving me but he just shook his head. Reached into his pocket and pulled out the wanted poster with my name and face on it. Jonathan custard, plain as day. So he got me for the bounty but why capture me and not turn me in? I tell ya I was confused for a bit there but it became clear. He knew of my skills. He wanted a fight. Probably wanted to test himself. I never got a confirmation but he cut my ropes and let me pull my gun. My trusty revolver, I checked to make sure he didn't take all my ammo, last I checked there were 3 bullets in the chamber. I opened up the chamber and there were still 3 bullets, but my extra ammo that I carried with me was gone. So I had three shots to kill this damn kid and go on my way. My plan had failed, I got no money, and every damned person after me was about to catch up, so I had to move west. I had my gun, told him to draw his. He shook his head again, pulled out his knife. He brought his knife to a gun fight. I laughed and fired a quick shot, missed him. He lunged at me with his knife I managed to push it back with my gun and roll out of the way. I fired another shot but, and I shit you not, he blocked it with that damn knife.

I had one shot left, I had to make it count. I stood up. He was 15 feet away from me. I pointed the gun at his head he saw and lunged again, I quickly pulled the gun down and aimed at his foot. I wasn't gonna win, but I could get away. I shot him in the foot and made a run for it. They were still looking for me in Rabbit springs so I just headed where I knew was west. That was when I quit being an outlaw and just started running. I was too scared of that man. That damn mute. Tell me partner, where you from? You haven't said much since I pulled you over here, I appreciate the listening but you could guess silence unnerves me. Come to think of it I haven't seen your face. You're hiding it under all that clothing! .... No. No oh jesus no...
