"Good morning, Mr. Lich..." The Longsword Pilot muttered, hovering over his television display.
"Range?"
"40 miles out." The WSO replied.
The pilot stared at his television display tube for a brief moment. Covering a 40 mile hike in a hypersonic interceptor wasn't the issue, it was getting caught.
They could approach within a comfortable missile range but ran the risk of having the Lich bug out and radio back to its fleet.

But the Lich wasn't looking for Longswords. It was looking for UNSC destroyers for the squadron of Seraph bombers to lob ordnance at.
"Hmmm. Alright, kill power to the radar. We'll have to be quick."
Once the WSO cut power to the aircraft's AN/APG-152 search radar, the Pilot increased the throttle to 80% and held slight off to the left of the Lich's wake.
The distance between the two shrank rapidly until they were within a relative spitting distance of 8 miles.

"Energize."

The WSO whipped the switchboard back to full power, the shrill high-pitch buzz of the search radar went off almost immediately. Already tracking the target.
"Locked on, ready to fire"
"Shoot!"

Within seconds, a pair of missiles dislodged from the Interceptor's internal weapons bay and slew forward at around 600 knots. The Banished craft was surprisingly none the wiser.
The first missile struck low as it tore a hole in the Lich's undercarriage. Shearing the front right rudder clean off.
The second detonated just behind the engines. Causing the craft to start plummeting towards the ring as gracefully as a lead brick.
