Maggie lives in a cold, never-changing little village on a cliff overhanging the sea. The people living there are very stubborn, but they stick together. The summer is very short, but it is a very good time for the people in the village because it is the time for harvest. During the winter most of the men go out to hunt while the women and children stay home to tend to the livestock and such.

Maggie wasn't born in the village; she was left on the doorstep of Ben the Blacksmith and his wife Erin when she was a baby. Still to this day no one knows where she came from, but the two took her in just the same. All of the adults in the village accepted her quickly, as they knew it wasn't right to look down on someone for being a little strange. It wasn't immediate but the school-children got used to her too, even if there are a few who still harass her for not coming from the village. Her best friend Sam usually takes care of them though.

Sam is a spunky girl with red hair who accepted Maggie right from when they were 5, regardless of her green skin and unknown origin. She thought it made her interesting. Out of the two Maggie is the more quiet one, and maybe a little more wise and practical. Not to say that Sam is dumb.

Maggie is a helpful and sweet girl who loves the people of the village and most of them love her too even though she is known as a bit of a strange girl. She likes animals, helping her father with the blacksmith shop and her mother with the house. In her spare time she likes to read dusty old books.
