Exhausted and beaten, the Lupine struggled to his paws. Blood stained his normally beautiful coat, and his eyes burned yellow as his anger had escalated him to Fury. He snapped his jaws at their attackers; the rogues had ambushed them out of nowhere. He staggered, his legs shaking underneath him. But still he refused to back down, his mate behind him--safe. Snarling, he feigned an attack at the rogues, but his inability to do much more than that betrayed his decoy. He has too tired to truly attack them. But still, he held on.

One rogue snickered, eyes glowing in the moonlight, but as it saw the Lupine's mate once more, its look turned to one of disgust. "A Lupine falling for a dog...how pathetic. And how unnatural," it growled, venom tinging its voice. The beaten Lupine snarled in defiance, claws clicking against the rock. His fangs were red with his enemies' blood.

"Take one step near him, and I'll rip your throat out!" the male snarled, positioning himself for attack if any rogue came towards them. But in the heat of the battle, in the mix of blood that flourished in the evening air, he was oblivious to one thing--one crucial thing.

His mate was already dead.
