How does one do a layer underneath a picture? I don;t have a multiply for layers on Pixia or Paint.net

Do you always just do linearts of the characters and then freehand the background? I'm curious because this seems to be a recurring theme with your wonderful linearts. This one's freaking adorable, by the way, and I love the lighting in the actual picture. ^_^

Hey hey
Generally I sketch out the character and BG, then I sketch colour the piece to make sure I get the balances right, do any tweeking that need to be done to the composition. When I'm happy I lineart the character neatly, and usually background on a separate layer (sometimes I just paint it) Then I neatly colour it all up
