Description The Psionivore is a ruthless predator of the mind. These shadowy creatures inhabit a hollow purgatory world (much like Malchagax, Delirium Scavenger ) in their larval state, where they drift along lifelessly and absorb stray mental energy. When a specimen recieves a high amount of mental energy for prolongued periods of time, it wakes.

When a Psionivore awakens, it is not considered alive. "Awakened" Psionovores are little more than simple programming piloting a body, and their first base "instinct" is to follow the most powerful source of energy; transcending spacial boundaries and planes of existence to find the source. Because of the requirements to wake a Psionovore, it is extremely likely one of the signals that wakes them emanates from a particularly strong psychic, and Psionovores will immediately move towards the center of that signal. In short, the Psionivore population reacts to the psychic population and will rarely seek those with "normal" abilities.

Once they have located the source of the signals, Psionivores attach themselves to their victims like monstrous tumors, and parasitize their mental potency. While the victim does not suffer any physical or neurological damage, their psychic abilities can be severely dampened as the leechlike Psionivore siphons and grows and siphons even more. Worse, Psionivores use their stolen powers to render themselves invisible to the outside world, and particularly unseen to the very entity they feed from. As they become larger and more massive, they become inversly harder to spot. Even if one is outright touching a Psionivore, it may alter their perception so it appears as if their hand passes through nothing.

As these etheric parasites grow, they develop primitive facial features and multiple glowing nodules with the ability to generate their own psychic energy. They continue to drain their prey while becoming more and more self-sustainable. In their final stage, the parasites detach from their victims, allowing them to finally gain access to the depths of their potential, but creating a massively dangerous mature Psionovore in the process: one that generates its own immense energies, and has an unusual desire to move on to more... physical nourishment. Even in this stage, the Psionovore works with concealment tactics, only being visible to a few creatures at a time and actively repressing anxious thoughts towards it.

Sufficiently advanced psychic species are either preyed upon by Psionovores, or have learned to overcome them. Due to their method of function, more powerful creatures can find it MORE difficult to locate Psionivores, as they often breed stronger variants. Fortunately Psionivores don't fare well against those who actively seek them out, and can be spotted if a psychic is thoroughly searched by another psychic of equal or greater power.

They're actually quite small at the awakening moment.
