Description
Okay, first off, this is based off the PS5 live stream that revealed some new games. The one that caught my eye is the newest Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart (I think that's what it's called) In a nutshell, Ratchet and Clank is a classic game I played on the PS2 way back in the day about this cat who is a lombax who wants off his boring home planet of Veldin. One day he sees a ship crash and finds XJ0461, renamed Clank. As games progress they save planets to universes multiple times from foes like Drek and Quark, Qwark again, Dr.Nefarious, Percival Tachyon, Dr.Nefarious again and Alastor Azimuth, then the final one I believe is the Prog twins. I'm using the PS3 timeline, R&C1 to Into the Nexus, though my main focus is in the newer games like Tools of Destruction, A Crack in Time and Into the Nexus. These games present Emperor Percival Tachyon who uses the Dimensionator to bring back his fellow Cragmites, a time-space warping device that Lombaxes used to flee from a Cragmite invasion that left Ratchet, his father Kaden and the exile Alastor Azimuth. It's this game that Clank is taken by Zoni per my favorite character Dr.Nefarious' orders and when Ratchet changes his hero goals to find his remaining kind.
In R&C: A Crack in Time, he meets Alastor, teaming up and trying to get to the Great Clock to go back in time to stop Tachyon's invasion. As the story goes on he reunites with Clank who says the Great Clock, the keeper of time and holder of the universe "Is not meant to control time, only to keep it". Ratchet sides with his friend which causes his and Alastor's partnership to end. When you defeat Nefarious you go back to the clock after Alastor saves you from colliding with the Nefarious Space Station. In one version, Ratchet tells Alastor that the Lombaxes aren't gone, they just moved on. But Alastor can't move on so he kills Ratchet in fury. Clank uses the clock and makes a better version by going back in time six minutes, pushing Ratchet out of the way of Alastor's attack and they have a final battle, one which Alastor realizes his mistake as the clock was collapsing and sacrifices his life to stop it. So Ratchet is left as the only Lombax again and Ratchet abandons his goal to find his own kind. Nexus has nothing really to effect this.
Now in the Trailer for the new Ratchet in Clank, it shows rifts forming. In Nexus, portals opened to the Netherverse by rifts made by the misuse of time in the past; and this may be a reason why it's shown that we can basically use Portal mechanics, maybe Clank helped build a device to harness the power of rifts with his knowledge of nearly being the Senior Caretaker of the Clock, but I kinda doubt it. Later It's shown a rift separates Clank from Ratchet, and Clank appears in another world. Another world with a new familiar race, a Lombax. As I thought about it my first response to seeing another one was that a rift opened to them and they were taken back in time, back before Tachyon nearly eliminated all the Lombaxes. It got me excited to think we could see Ratchet's father Kaden and getting to see the tragic hero Alastor. A key point to me was they looked relatively modern, but they are a rather advanced race. So that got me thinking of another thing. R&C:aCiT, Clank declines the offer to become the watcher of The Great Clock since it would leave Ratchet alone. He wanted to find Ratchet's own kind, his family. Clank ends up being the one with the Lombaxes. I think that Dr.Nefarious is somehow back even with him blowing up with his station, and may be messing with time again or at least has some role. I'm most likely wrong, but I think Clank went to another world that the Lombaxes escaped to, where they moved and disappeared from their original universe.
I think this theory is 99 percent wrong though, since I have never played the PS4 version. I know it's different in timeline wise, Ratchet wants to be a hero, Clank is somewhere that I don't think is his home world where he was made but I could be wrong. And since this is for the PS5, it will most likely follow with the PS4 version of events. (I planned on getting the PS4 version since I got my Ps4 as a late Christmas present this year, but then things shut down
Also, So excited for Horizon Zero Dawn, that is one of my favorite games, my number two. I don't got money though so… never gonna play it or Kena or Stray or this new Ratchet and Clank but one can dream.... Right?
Ratchet and Clank is my childhood along with Ty the Tiger, Dragon Ball Tenkachi Budokai (Butchered it) and Jak and Daxter, so I was sad with no DBZ or Jak updates.
I do not own Dr. Nefarious, he's from Insomiac.
