One example is when American rock-and-roll musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, and their pilot, Roger Peterson were killed in a plane crash on February 3, 1959 near Clear Lake, Iowa. In 1971, Don McLean started calling the crash "The Day the Music Died" in his song American Pie.
