Like a drunk girl at a bar,
Shattering the last of the sunlight shimmers,
Leaving glasslike glittering stars,
Like shards of morning
Trying hard to reform the dawn.

In the disrepair of darkness,
Syrup thick and rum coloured
A girl walked home alone
Most of her skin left uncovered
Wind chilling her to the bone.

In that darkness,
Were beasts that lusted for that flesh,
They made themselves known
And she scarpered while shrieking in distress.

Clumsy drunken footfalls,
Played a drumbeat
As she turned the corner into a dead end
And wailed in defeat.
Hands reached for her
But screams answered her screech.

The drums became that of
Thousands of tiny wing beats.
The beasts screeched
As they were forced to retreat.
Fangs bit into flesh,
And silent screams
From chewed throats
Filled Halloween eve.

For one evening in a year,
Villains must feel genuine fear
Because the darkness will intervene,
And does not care if it is seen.
It holds back nothing and gives it's all,
One by one the bodies fall.
The darkness may be one to appal
But it knows evil,
It knows all.

It has no patience,
It will not wait,
It would sooner shape your fate.
So if tonight you are out late,
Do not think to make the mistake
Of thinking the darkness condones
Your iniquity.
There is no way to atone,
You will burn alone.
