It sits serenely,
Pinched between two bodies of blue.
A statue leans on its cane smiling gleefully,
Listening to the spoonbills coo.
I have precious recollections,
Of a beach with shipwreck shaped rocks,
Silhouetted by gleaming reflections,
On a tide that babbles, roars and talks.
I rest and stare up at a sky
I never knew could be so bright,
I watch for hours and as much as I try
Can't tell night from daylight.
I wander from the sea,
to the stillness of the lake.
The silence seems to bleed
And quiet every breath I take.
Swans skim the glass coloured lake,
Muted dull white on shimmering grey.
The cool wind blows the branches it shakes,
Sending cascades of dry leaves out like an ocean spray.
The disjointed cries of gannets,
break the silent spell.
In that moment, I have been banished,
An unworthy tourist they have dispelled.
I stand and the wind forces me to sway,
It whispers it's secrets and it rushes through reeds,
It says 'farewell' it says 'go away',
'Leave me untouched' I comply with its pleas.
And my heavy heart is lifted,
By it's cool breeze.
