Knuckles is being treated horribly as a character by SEGA nowadays, so I am going to give him justice. In this version, he takes his role as leader very seriously, having not believed he would even get the position after Sonic "died". He still doesn't believe he deserves it, seeing every failure, injury and death as a fault of his bad leadership. He is very serious and has turned more or less into a Sergeant, a captain.

He is plagued by constant headaches and anxiety. I'm considering giving him OCD from the war, having developed "rituals" from how he had to live life. He feels like he HAS to pace around the base several times to make sure there are no intruders. He MUST check on his friends before bed to make sure they are okay. He NEEDS to meditate to make sure the Master Emerald is still not being taken.

He acts like Sonic's death hasn't fazed him, but it shook him to his core. Sonic was basically his first and best friend, but he knows the others are grieving, so he throws himself headfirst into everything he does. He exhausts himself constantly. Since he isn't really allowed to go into the field to fight like the others, needing to remain back at base and give commands and keep track of enemy movements, he works as hard as he possibly can. When things go wrong, he gets mad, because his temper is still there, but it is short lived since he is too exhausted to remain angry. When he is not leading, he is training until his hands are bleeding, and when he isn't doing that, he is watching through footage and combing through reports on enemies to find a weakness -- although he struggles sometimes and asks for Espio's keen eye in this task. IF he goes to sleep, it is poor and only for a few hours at a time. Either he is too stressed and anxious to sleep, or he is woken up by an emergency he must tend to. Amy is the only one keeping him from going off the rails sometimes. Taking over temporarily for a few hours so Knuckles can rest.

The rare times he gives himself a break, he stares at the night sky and speaks to the sky. Though he doesn't name it, since it hurts too much, he talks to the sky like its Sonic. Taking about his day, and letting out his feelings.

Knuckles is not sure how long he can keep up this lifestyle. He is terrified this war is never going to end. But he is more afraid of it ending, he is so used to living this way.
