I actually didn't care much for the movie, and your Strider is much closer to what I find an important part of the story - the hobbits and the reader both wouldn't be sure whether to trust him or not, until Rivendel at least. Truly, one of your best yet!

I pictured him with short hair too, before the movies erased all of my old mental images of the characters and replaced them with movie people.
