There was a statue of Queen Victoria in Dublin City that was sent to Australia post Independence - the local Dubliner's had never liked Victoria and nicknamed the old statue of her "The old bitch" which just illustrates how unpopular she was. During the Boer War many Dubliner's sympathized openly with the Boer side and nicknamed the Victorian Boer War Arch "Traitors Gate".
