Welcome back to another edition of devInterviews!
This particular devInterview was done by Noririk .
Gerkinvision has been a member of deviantArt for five years and lives in Australia.
Q: What first got you started on Flash Animation?
A: I think, it was just the desire to animate and tell stories in general, when i first got a PC all i had where some free gif making programs, they were a nightmare to use and the best i could manage was taking a series of screenshots from a game and then adding my characters over the top to give the illusion of movement. Fast forward a couple of years and i got a copy of Flash 4 and once i got my ahead around how it worked, i was hooked, and i've been using flash ever since.
Q: What was your first Flash Animation?
A: A little piece called "Here Comes The Sun". By all rights it was god awful, it was just a series of experiments i suppose, set to the song of the same name. Filled with lots of awful tweens and horrible gradients. The first flash cartoon people would remember me for tho would be Gerkinman Episode 1, which was the first cartoon i released online.

Q: How long have you been making Animations?
A: Since i was 14, so that's about 9 years now. It sure doesn't feel like it... ha ha. Sadly i haven't improved much over the years...
Q: What is you favorite out of all of your Animations? (like, which makes you the most proud to have made)
A: That's a tough one, i don't really have any old animations that im proud of. I still quite like a few of my more recent animations, "Down at McDonalds" and "Spaceman Bobs Time Apple" especially.
Q: Do you post your work (Animations) on JUST deviantART or other places as well?
A: I also upload allot of my animations to Newgrounds, in fact allot of my flash cartoons, particularly older ones can only be found there due to either sexual nature or because they were a collaboration.

Q: Did anyone specifically inspire you to do Flash?
A: I wouldn't say so in the beginning, as when i first got flash i didn't have the internet at home, in fact it was a good year or two before i started looking at cartoons online. At school i watched allot of the cartoons from killfrog.com and i was also introduced to Homestarrunner.com, those both influenced me for a long time. Once i got the net at home i started trying to copy people like Legendary Frog and Super Flash Bros as well, but over time i lost interest in making those sorts of cartoons. I guess these days my biggest inspiration would be my friend Zekey Spacey Lizard who ive not long finished working on a paid project with.
Q: It looks like you've been on deviantART for a long time! Do you like it here?
A: To be honest im not as active here as i was a few years ago. I do like the advances the site has gone threw over the years but there seems to be less and less content here that actually interests me.

Q: What brought you to deviantART?
A: I don't even remember now, it was such a long time ago. I think it was the fact that unlike Newgrounds i could feature both my animation AND illustrations here.
Q: Do you take part in any of the community projects here on deviantART? (such as ~devInterviews or ~ProjectComment)
A: Cant say that i do...

Q: Can you name one thing you really like about deviantART?
A: Unlike some other sites i have had accounts on over the years *cough*sheeyart*cough* deviantart always seems to be stable. No downtime or crappy updates every day. Looks a whole lot nicer too.
Q: Anything you don't really like?
A: Ive known some people who have been banned from here for some pretty strange reasons, ill leave it at that.

Q: So...Hows life going?
A: Pretty good, im sitting here doing this interview, getting ready to play some rock band. Cant really complain.
Q: What else do you enjoy doing other than Animation?
A: Video games of course, like every other person who does these interviews. I also love watching movies, and i mean allot of movies. I quite enjoy just walking around town taking in the sites.

Q: I must admit...I'm an aspiring Animator myself, do you have any tips or words of wisdom for aspiring Flash Animators?
A: Don't animate for the wrong reason, when i started online i made cartoons i thought would make me popular. So i spent all my time watching and copying other popular animators trying to replicate there success. When i started making what i wanted people stopped caring. It took me a while to realize i was animating for the wrong reasons. Now i don't care what the masses on the internet think, im only interested in improving myself as an animator and as a storyteller, and i think that's whats really important.
Q: Do you have anything you would like to add?
A: Be good to your parents =B
That concludes this week's interview with Gerkinvision.
