Description I

She stood in front of the cave. Behind her, a massive field of grass swayed happily with the wind. The sky was a deep shade of blue, pensive in its constitution and ready to change. The cave's entrance was large, a semi circle of rough proportion and shrouded in darkness. The girl was an adult but not old enough to be deemed capable of making decisions that influenced economic prosperity. She had waited for a while and started growing impatient. She swung her arms and noticed her nails glistening as they reflected the sun that was threatened by the clouds. An old man in saffron robes emerged from the cave. He was nearly bald, had a slight grey beard and a look of weariness. He was a man of the faith. Noticing the girl, he walked up to her and motioned for her to walk with him. "What do you want?" he asked her. She looked down at the grass that brushed against her knees. "How do you perform the ritual that is described by the Owlman prophecy?" she asked without making eye contact.

He smiled and said, "The Oyel-aalan myth is what it is my dear, a myth." "Humour me", she replied. "Well, according to the prophecy, someone will one day be responsible for destroying the world." "I know about all that. I need details. If you do not know more about this, tell me and I'll be on my way", she replied curtly. "In a rush you are child, I'll tell you", he said and his strides decreased. The breeze surged and his robes pressed flat against his body as he started describing the prophecy.  "There is a specific ritual that must be performed to control the nature of reality and time. You must understand, I might be a holy man but the depth and vastness of a topic like this baffles me. The prophecy is cryptic. I do not know the exact words of the prophecy but through the decades it has come to mean several things. Some believe that a person of great importance will manipulate the time-space dimension to bring about a massive change to purge the world of all its sins. My great grandfather believed the prophecy was about an evil energy that discovered the mechanics of this process and used it to destroy all living things. A group of monks from Tibet believe the prophecy will be set into motion by an ordinary person. The consequences will be tremendous but they don't project the outcome to be negative in nature."

The walk back to the town was long and they walked along a cliff that over looked the sea. "You must understand that there are many agents at work in such theories. Some believe the prophecy is directly linked to the Owlman mechanics that are used to alter specific threads of fate. By changing these threads you might destroy the fabric of the current reality we reside in and create an entirely new one. A group of scholars from the far South believe two different realities might merge and continue as one. It is difficult to imagine such an occurrence. You might a find yourself in a different avatar in that reality. Can you imagine?" he asked her. He looked into her eyes and noticed a lifeless and almost jaded response to his description of the prophecy. "Tell me what you know about creating the device that might fulfil the prophecy." He took a deep sigh and started to describe what he knew.

"I don't know exactly what the device does but to create the device you need two blessed elements, objects of power and scriptures from two of the three main polarizing sources of life", he said calmly. "Yes, I do not know what that means. It is a grail of sorts around the doctrines of faith. Some thought it was a reference to religion but then again, religion is man made. What we are looking at is made by something greater than both of us my dear", he said and walked on.

Later that day, she waited in the same impatient fashion outside the church. The priest was a short man with a perfectly circular belly that protruded from his dark habit. His face was old and weathered but his eyes moved around quickly and shrewdly in their sockets. He was curt in his approach to the girl and he devalued mysticism in favour of a more scientific approach. The girl asked him about the Owlman prophecy. "The Bhaanuk Daadloe theory…hmmm", he mused. "Is it a prophecy or a theory?" she asked. "It depends on how the subject is approached. The prophecy doesn't say anything concrete. If the prophecy indicates anything, it is simply this: someone is bound to play around with the dynamics of fate. The theory in some ways is the same as the prophecy. The prophecy indicates the occurrence of an event. The theory simply states that it is possible. The fact that it will occur is inevitable because someone will eventually discover how to control time and reality."

"What is needed to construct the controls and how would you control it?" she enquired. He was about to answer the question when he paused and looked down. He looked up, pulled out a pair of spectacles and put them on. He looked at her more closely and murmured something. "I need to visit the building at the far end. Walk with me", he said. The church's land was large, covered with enough forestry to invoke a sense of natural being and cleared around the important stone buildings where people would gather to pray.

"Think of an oval object that has eight appendages protruding at equal distances from each other. If you find it hard to imagine, think of a perfectly symmetrical spider. Each of its appendages point out in a direction and at a certain angle. These appendages control time. If you were to move these appendages, you could change an event or a series of events that have occurred. There are rules to these changes. By changing an event, something else will happen to negate the effect of the current change. In other words, no reality can be bent to perfection. The change in events lead to another negative or undesirable event occurring. This is what the theory states. The prophecy states that someone will bend reality according to his or her needs but strive to disobey the rules of the process. The person will create what is commonly referred to as the butterfly effect. A small ripple in one reality will disturb all consequent realities. What happens when this disturbance spreads is not known. But it is said to literally destroy time."

He looked into her eyes and noticed a new emotion. It was faint but true in its radiance. There was a hint of sadness and determination. Carefully measuring his words, he said, "It is impossible for the human mind to wrap itself around the idea of infinity. Can you think of something always being in existence? The consequences of not following the rules of the reality manipulation are similar."

They walked for an entire minute without speaking. He stopped walking and gently caught her arm. "My child, I realise that there is something troubling you and you've resorted to something that is vague and legendary to find solace. What ails you?" he asked. She replied, "I've thought long and hard about changing the past. My needs are almost trivial compared to greater and more ardent ones. I was in love but didn't realise it. I sent my first true love away. I thought I fell in love with another. But I haven't and I realise that… now. He's become an irritation in my life and a constant reminder that I've ruined my future. While switching the tracks of my romance, I distanced those who were close to me and moreover, I've lost track of what I originally wanted in life. So, I need to keep my first true love with me and allow a new future to take its shape."

The priest started laughing slowly. The girl spoke out immediately, not in anger but with reasoning, "Someone will eventually change the rules. The prophecy will come true. There will be annihilation. At that point, it will not matter what the change is because no mortal man can play with a dimension of existence." The priest looked at her and smiled, "You've got a point young lady. It doesn't matter"

"What is needed to create this device?" she asked him. He described materials similar to the holy man's description.

II

The girl had all the materials required.  She sat on the floor of her room and placed a large bowl in front of her. She poured holy water from two canteens, one collected from a church and the other from a temple, into the bowl. She then immersed a wooden cross and a statue of a Hindu lord into the bath. She closed her eyes and recited the scriptures softly.

She wondered why no one figured out what was needed to control time. It was simple, albeit too simple.

Outside her room, everything stopped.

She felt the device. She felt the appendages of time. It is impossible to describe the device or the process she used to control it. The girl knew that she would never be happy even if she altered the future. So she did was she had always meant to do, she did not obey the rules of the process. She pulled all the appendages in the direction she wanted and shattered every single rule used to govern time, space and reality. She quickly used a part of her soul to function as binds, thus holding the appendages in the direction she wanted. She opened her eyes, feeling less alive but in control. She stood up and waited.

The door of her room opened and he stepped in. He looked at her blankly. She stared back at him, longing to leap across the room. His face broke into a smile and he walked across the room towards her. Before he reached her, she threw her arms around him and used all her strength to hold him. Within seconds, they found each others lips and kissed deeply.

III

No one understands the true nature of the Owlman prophecy. In her moment of true love and embrace, her heart and body swelled with pure happiness. The pieces of her soul allocated towards holding the appendages returned to her and she felt truly alive. The appendages of the device rushed back to their original state. As each appendage was reset, they created massive disturbances that reverberated through every thread holding reality together.

She moved away gently from his lips and noticed him turn into dust in front of her eyes. Her room was no more. The heaven above her had become dark and the earth beneath her was shifting rapidly. Soon she couldn't breathe and collapsed on the shifting earth and soon everything ceased to exist.

IV

She tried opening her eyes but they burned and she closed them immediately. She got the glimpse of a very bright light. There was a light breeze and she felt her lungs expanding to accept air in a sharp gasp. Slowly, her eyes opened and she found herself in front of a massive waterfall. The air was very pure and each gasp intoxicated her and made her head dizzy. She turned around, struggling to stay awake and noticed the colours of the plants and trees were a deep shade of green she had never seen before. Each sound was unique and celebratory. She noticed her clothes had disappeared but she felt normal. She walked ahead and noticed a series of rocks and plants guarding the basin of the waterfall. Suddenly, she heard a deep voice emanating from behind her. She turned around startled.

A man who looked like he had been transfigured from a perfectly sculptured statue stood in front of her, partially covered by the plants. Her eyes looked into his first and then immediately dropped to his pubic region and widened. He was stark naked and was holding a large crimson fruit in his hand.
