Description
Speed video of the entire work time condensed into 4 minutes:[link]A 3.5 hour quickie of Psylocke from The X-Men done in photoshop entirely.
I get asked a lot how I draw or how I ink or how I color so I thought this would be a good way to show from start to finish. You can see Psylocke come together from a blank sheet of paper to the rough pencils, to the inks and then all the way to what you see above. Unfortunately, some of the color rendering file got corrupted so it's missing a little toward the end but I plan on doing another one of these for full color rendering sometime in the near future. If you have any suggestions for techniques you'd like to see please feel free to mention them here or on the Youtube video page.
Hope you dig!
-Mark

Thanks so much Dan! And yes, please do! I'd love to see more of my comic peeps doing these for all to see. I use Debut Video Capture software which is free as well as Windows Movie Maker which are both easy as pie to use even for a techtard like me.

This and the video are great. I love your take on her leggings.
I'm always impressed on how artists like yourself get such clean ink lines in PhotoShop.

Wow. Beautiful work sir. It's great to see your process. It would be interesting and a pleasure to see your process of doing different materials in Photoshop. For example, how you got Psylocke's costume to look like silk, or how you would approach doing someone like "bucky" Caps costume or Iron Man's shiny armor.

The video was great but the picture froze during the skin tone portion of the color which was a shame but the pic is amazing and great work as always. can't wait to see the next one. ^_^

Super tight. Do you do your interior pages all on photoshop as well, or is it just spot illustrations and cover work?

Everytime you draw her, you draw her better than the last time you drew her. Unreal.

Great video Mark! It's nice to see the process and all the decisions you have to make as you are sketching, inking, and coloring!
Now all I need to do is find the time to draw for myself!

wow, you drew this entirely on the computer, and it doesn't show at all! Amazing.
Do you have a regular tablet or one that lets you draw directly on the screen?

It amazes me how you get such a good quality image from penciling/inking in photoshop. Are you working at 300 or 600 dpi? Photoshop does not give you the ability to turn the canvas around or rotate it while you ink, do you find this a hindrance? How do you keep your images from looking distorted? I guess a lot of the transformation tools help with this too. Thank you for the upload and vid...awesome!

Great work, Mark, and especially glad to see you work with so few layers in PhotoShop. It seems like lots of people want to try and prove how hardcore they are by having 100 layers in each file. Me, I've got no time for that. The most complex drawings I've ever done have had maybe 10-12 layers total.
Great video too. Process is everything.

I love how 3.5 hours = 4 minutes of video. XD
Sometimes I think people do not realize the amount of time a single character, full color rendering actually takes. (Longer for those of us noobs who are still trying to figure out the process.) There are days when it takes me 3.5 hours just to do the sketch-- and by then I'd rather tear it up into pieces and throw it around like confetti than finish it.
Thanks for the video. I look forward to seeing the next one. Awesome work, as always
