Description XIII Standard
Each Roman legion was marked by a legion number such as here in the famous XIII under Julius Caesar. In the Commentarii de Bello Gallico writen by Julius Caesar there is a shorter story of the stolen eagle. The eagle is one of the most prized Standard in the late Roman Republic. The XIII Legion under Caesar at the time was so famous for staying by his side fighting during the Civil War in Rome against Pompeius Magnus (Caesar's coconsul before Caesar's dictatorship). The army was committing teason entering Rome in arms but Caesar pushed forward with his army remaining loyal. Caesar was eventually victorious after news spread that Pompey's head was taken in Egypt.
