I have heard about a guy doing this in real life.
A friend of mine was taking a military-like leadership training camp, and one guy was being a smart a$$ to the drill sergeant, and the sergeant said "Drop, gimme' 20!", and the smart a$$ literally pulled out his wallet and hands his a $20 bill. The sergeant refused it, then made him do 35!
