--------------------
Have you ever thought about running away from this world? As an adolescent teenager, I've thought a lot about this.

When given the theme 'What you can and can't see' for my art club's exhibition work, I immediately determined to show my current thoughts on my individual piece.

I took the exhibition's theme and made a question out. 'Would I be able to see what I can't see by giving up what I can see?'.
I used a mask without a eye hole to show that the wearer can't literally 'see', and made a bat mask(It's a bat) to show that the wearer is a very obscure and gloomy person-me. Bats have that kind of image for me and I thought bats would be perfect to express my current self.
If I start a expedition of finding what I couldn't see by giving up seeing what I could, I would start with a marvelous feeling of freedom.
However, having lived in this world for some time, I won't be able to run away from it wholely. I won't be able to ignore the sounds of the world coming into my ears-which is portrayed by mechanical style ears since I believe for now that living in the system is like being a robot.
It'll start to eat my fantastic colors starting from the ears, ignoring my effort to deny it which is portrayed by hands trying to stop the black fluid flowing down.
Eventually, covered in black, I would regret my choice in loneliness and sadness.. and come back to the reality being fully adapted to it.

The snails are the eyes of the audience (who obviously are from the world I'm running away from) which influences the mask how it looks, the story it tells and so on. I sticked nails into each snail's shells, because I thought their views will distort my intention, which is messed up.

This story behind the mask expresses the anxiety that I have on my own fantasy.
---------------------------

Though it might be very poor at techniques, I just wish this mask conveys the story.

Thank you for taking your time to see my work!
