Description
Matanuska River fed from the Matanuska Glacier,This river has carved the valley you see there in front of you from the left to the right side about 2 to 3 miles width river is darkend with silt from the mountains it has been eating away at since just after the last ice age. Mountain are about 1400 to 2300 feet high not to large but they span a better part of Alaska, south central area. Known as the Chugiak mountain range (chew-gee-ack). Highest mountain in the Chugiak range is probably around 14 to 15 thousand feet high. All of these start at sea level.
This picture was taken from the Glenn Hwy. About 12miles outside of Palmer city limits.
Rafting the area of the river you see there is not suggested. Since its really swift and deep at the area to the right. The river is glacier fed and has water temps just above freezing.
