I had to cut the rest of Sam's excuses to cover for Rick, and Ilsa's initial reply to Sam that he was a terrible liar, due to lack of space on the page. My apologies to both Warner Brothers and this movie's many fans (of which I am one).

Panel five (where Ilsa asks Sam to play "As Time Goes By" is the origin for a line that was often incorrectly attributed to Humphrey Bogart himself (Rick Blane) by his many impersonators -- and it's not even correct in the impersonation. The incorrect line has Bogart (as Rick) saying, "Play it again, Sam." The closest he ever comes to uttering that line is sometime later in the move, where he says simply, "Play it."
