Description

Ported to OBJ from the low poly fan-created model made for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series of video games.  Based on the original design by Stephen V. Cole and the Amarillo Design Bureau (ADB) for the Star Fleet Battles (SFB) tabletop sci-fi war game.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

This comes from the SFB gaming continuity, although a lot of folks use in their various Trek multiverse threads as a Feddie TOS era fighter shuttle because it's available and it's convenient.  Whatever works for you, folks (wink).  In SFB this is the solid third in the Feddie top-dog modern fighter shuttle trio, with both the F-14 and F-15 duking it out for first and second respectively.  All are named for and inspired by their American fighter jet counterparts of the late Cold Era, with the Feddie F-18 being based on the original fighter jet prototype for what became the F/A-18 Hornet in service back then, which was the smaller precursor to the larger F-18E/F Super Hornet with which most of you are probably more familiar with these days.  Go look it all up if you want more info.  Anyway, back to Trek.  The F-18 may have wound up playing second fiddle to both the F-14 and F-15 in the SFB gaming continuity, but it was still a solid and respectable Feddie fighter shuttle all the same.  Also, since it was somewhat smaller than either the F-14 or F-15, it could fit in places they couldn't due to the size issue.  The F-18 was used widely within Starfleet as a supplemental fighter shuttle for regular starships during SFB's General War, for example, with usually two carried in place of regular shuttles.  They were the original choice for Feddie strike carriers until those in turn were given bigger secondary hulls (see my own TMP era Darian sub-class of the Nimitz class CVS, for example).  These were also very popular as export fighters to the Feddie's allies.  The Gorn bought them in droves, for example, since hadn't really messed with either fighter or attack shuttles until the General War made them, and a specially modified version of the Feddie F-18 flown by Skolean pilots (the smaller humanoid Skoleans were allies of the Gorn) became the first major class of space fighters ever fielded by the Gorn Hegemony.  And on and on and on.

The only version of this model that's out there right now is painted in Feddie colors.  If you want it in other colors or paint schemes (say as the Gorn export version), I'm afraid you'll have to make your own custom textures for that.  BTW the fan model comes in two versions:  plain (as shown above) and with wing pylons pre-loaded with ordinance.  XD

This is semi-canon, as it comes from the Franchise licensed SFB gaming continuity.  What you do with it in your thread(s) of the Trek multiverse is of course up to you.

Live long and prosper.
