Conte di Cavour, named after the 20th century Italian battleship, was the second true aircraft carrier built for the post-World War II Italian Navy (Regia Marina). Entering service in 2009, Conte di Cavour is a one-of-a-kind warship built to complement Giuseppe Garibaldi, Italy's first post-World War II true aircraft carrier (all previous ones were "gator" carriers). Like her predecessor she is technically a light carrier of the through-deck type (ala the British Invincibles), and like her she was designed and built to accommodate V/STOL naval aircraft (originally Harrier jump jets) in addition to ASW and transport helicopters and such. This is what sets her and her predecessor apart from earlier Italian "gator carriers" of the 20th century, in that she was designed from the onset with a sea control ship capability (ala the musings of USN Admiral Elmo Zumwalt back in the 1960s), and this aspect of her design would be adapted by the Japanese once they were forced to begin building carriers again due to the rise of Chinese naval power on the other side of the world. Conte di Cavour is currently the largest warship in the Italian Navy and has served as its flagship ever since her launch, replacing the older Giuseppe Garibaldi in that role. She underwent her first modernization refit in the early 2020s, and current plans are for her original air wing of Harrier jump jets to be replaced by the more capable F-35B Lightning II, purchased under contract from the United States and adapted for Italian carrier operations, before the mid-2020s. Conte di Cavour is expected to remain in active service with the Italian Navy through the first quarter of the 21st century. This is a straight port with no changes by me. It lacks a lower hull, propulsion machinery, and rudder because these are not required for CFS2 ship models (it normally treats them as scenery). If you want to add these to this model and re-release, I've no objections if Mr. Alice doesn't.
This is not my model. All I did was port it to OBJ for you. Please credit Biff Alice for the CFS2 original. You do not have to credit me for my OBJ port.
