Description
Back in 2019 I was very happy to receive official written permission from creator blood_wraith to port all of the recreated classic RE2 locations that he made for his RE2 Source Demo to the standard OBJ model format. That way everyone who wanted to pose 3D digital art in these classic Resident Evil franchise locales could also use and enjoy them. I quickly found out that he had only done the Game A locations, so I hunted down a couple of alternate sources for the Game B locations. One of these was the RE2 joint recreation efforts by dukeblooders and arletis007, also on the Source engine, and the other was Roku's RE2 Campaign for Left 4 Dead 2. Taking all of these sources into account, every single location from the original version of RE2 has been recreated on the Source engine, as well as a handful of places you could only see but never visit in the game. I never could get in contact with dukeblooders, arletis007, or Roku, but they never objected when I ported from their efforts to fill in the gaps in my RE2 Source Collection recreation set -- and of course I always did my best to credit everyone involved for their work as appropriate. I pulled my RE2 Source Collection set from the web at the same time as the public side of the RE3 REvisited project and for the same reasons; however, there's nothing to stop anyone else from doing the same if you're willing to put in the work and have a good grasp on extracting or ripping Source engine based sceneries. The tools are out there, believe me. In the meantime, please enjoy these old preview images from the set and I hope you'll take the time to play their recreations as well. They're really good for what they are, and they're available for free from various Internet sites with a simple search of your favorite Internet search engine.
NOTES - This was ripped from roku's RE2 for L4D2 "B" campaign. It took me half-a-dozen passes with NinjaRipper from different viewing angles to get all of the pieces, and then I got to reassemble everything in a 3D model editor. Oh, what fun that was (grin). Anyway, this is the only fan recreation of this particular area from the original RE2 of which I currently know (June 2022). That said, I wish blood_wraith had done one because roku's has several inaccuracies, with the most obvious one being the placement of the back platform area where Ada appears and tosses the rocket launcher down to Leon so he can defeat G-Birkin in his boss fight back here. I also had to reshape this room somewhat so both the door and the train bay connections would match up reasonably with blood_wraith's superior recreation of the front of the Train Bay. Finally I used blood_wraith's better train models and I also did a custom "grey train" retexture of his so I'd have the second train in the background as seen in the game. I couldn't put it back here where it belongs because of roku putting Ada's platform in the wrong place, directly where that second "grey train" is supposed to be parked. That's why I moved it into the front of the Train Bay as seen in that image.
