As noted earlier, both Ling-Ling and Mr. Sudo were featured in the second episode of Sleuths, "The Tale of the Torch Singer." She was a former geisha who had moved to the West, and she became good friends of both Claire and Rebecca during that particular adventure. Ling-Ling in turn introduced them to her former danna Mr. Sudo during that same adventure, as he happened to be visiting her in the States at the time. After Clarie got suspended and docked in pay by the Agency for violating orders near the end of that affair, Mr. Sudo invited her to Japan to sing at the private resort that was owned by his "asssociates" -- i.e. the yakuza. Claire had a good time, as we find out in later episodes, and Mr. Sudo was so keen on her to return for a singing engagement that he invited everyone this time around -- and all expenses paid to boot!
Let me note at this point that since the Agency is a private organization with an international reach, it can and has and maintains some rather unusual contacts with a number of groups and individuals that normal government agencies couldn't go near for various reasons. Jill alluded to this at the start of "The Tale of the Torch Singer" in reference to Mickey's membership at the Central City Supper Club, and we found out later in that episode that the Agency knew quite a bit about the Mafia and other forms of organized crime Stateside. It was also implied then and made clear now that the Agency maintains informal contacts with the yakuza as well, and one very particular aspect of that will be touched on later in this episode. Let me also remind you that the Agency is not a criminal organization but works for the common good. It's just that as a private, non-governmental outfit they get a lot more leeway when working under the table than over it or that a government agency would in either case, if you know what I'm saying. I think you do.
The Tokyo street scene is a reuse of the Scramble Tokyo stage from Tecmo's Dead or Alive 5 (DOA5), as ported by Rolance for XPS but modified for daytime use. Here's a link to his original port:
I told you I'd be recycling GMOD's classic "cs_737-700" map for use as Tokyo International Airport in this episode. You'll see it used again for that once the vacation is over and it's time for everyone to leave.
