Description
Ported to OBJ from the model included with the Amphibious Assault Craft Pack by the AF-Midway Team for Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 2 (CFS2). Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.
This general type of landing barge, or ones similar to or very much like it, represented the biggest majority of landing craft used by the Allies during World War II. Similar craft also existed on the Axis side, such as the Japanese daihatsu and the various German landing barge designs. This particular one, the LCM Mark 3 (Landing Craft Medium, Landing Craft Motorized, or Landing Craft Mechanized, depending on your source) was as with most Allied landing craft a joint United States and Great Britain development project and was based on a prewar British design for a motor landing craft. This CG model represents a Higgins-built LCM-3, of which only one fully intact example still survives (Battleship Cove Museum, Fall River, Massachusetts) and was large enough to be capable of carrying everything up to one 30-ton Sherman M4 main battle tank. Almost three dozen nations used LCMs both during World War II and well into the Cold War era, having bought them as war surplus from the major wartime Allied powers. This is the stock model from the pack, with no changes by me.
This is not my model. All I did was port it for you. Please credit the AF-Midway team if you use this in any of your own 3D projects. You do not have to credit me for my OBJ port.
For non-profit, non-commercial use only.
ASIDE - This or the smaller LCVP is usually your default landing craft in most World War II videogames on both sides, due to its type being the most common and both sides operating similar craft, if differing in certain details. Paint in feldgrau and add an Iron Cross or swastika and you've got a fair alternative for a German MAL-type barge. Paint it in Pacific colors and add a Rising Sun badge and you've got a fair representation of one of the bulkier Japanese landing barges. You can also repaint it in whatever colors you need for later Cold War use with other nations. And so on, and so on.
