Description For years, I've been wondering how to create those kinds of spikey volumetric fog effects you see sometimes. After seeing the opening to Command & Conquer 3, I had an idea, and it seems to have worked pretty well. A tiny, non-rendering sphere is placed around the light, with a noise or cellular map for its opacity. That will create what you see.

Of course, one light wasn't good enough for me, so I went ahead and used three lights with the same volume fog effect. That caused the render time to exceed two and a half minutes. Just for this. It doesn't seem like it'll be useful for much, aside from my new logo, but at least I finally figured it out.
