Description
Since the main scene I'm working on takes a half an hour or more to load and several minutes to adjust the camera, I've decided to experiment on the glowy shiny special effects in separate scenes. That way I can avoid ridiculous load and render times on things that don't work.So the question was, can I use finalFlares to create a beam of energy, and have it shine through a semi-spherical object with lots of holes in it? And the answer is... absolutely not. For some reason or another, finalFlares didn't want to cooperate with me, mostly because the object it was mapped on was mostly transparent. And the finalFlares volumetric effect that'll show up in reflections doesn't adjust to the shape of what it's applied to.
So this was the answer. Three finalRender volumetric lights. I don't know if the end color will be purple, but you get the idea. With a little adjustment, this is likely to be the method used to create the beam in the final version of that scene . All that's left now is to find some glow effect that'll show up in reflections for the arcs of lightning.
And those are three highly reflective spheres there, in case you were wondering.
