yes i do like this! i just love horizons and the sky... though somehow i feel iv seen this all before... i guess there are many sky photos out there... this just needs something a little bit more to elavate it above the rest. still its very well captured, what camera do you use?

The colors are beautiful. I would suggest brighteneing just a it with like 4% more contrast for it to be eyeballing. But I really do think it's perfect - that's only being picky.

Amazing capture. Such a wonderful location!

very nice, the composition and contrast rock... you've done very well here... NOW BORDER IT! lol... borders make everything more appealing

(you dont have to tho )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DimensionSeven In reply to AnonymousPhotography [2007-05-15 18:00:31 +0000 UTC]

You're basically right, but bordering it would spoil the aspect ratio of 1:1,5 (needed for prints). I'd have to cut from the top and/or bottom to get it right, and that would hurt the perspective.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AnonymousPhotography In reply to DimensionSeven [2007-05-15 18:05:36 +0000 UTC]

you could keep the aspect ratio by adding to the picture instead of cropping it.... make the canvas size proportionately larger, and fill the remaining area with your border, stroke the picture and you're done

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DimensionSeven In reply to AnonymousPhotography [2007-05-16 09:06:13 +0000 UTC]

I don't seem to get your point... sorry, it must be my English. If I add border, the vertical borded would have to be thicker to keep the aspect ratio. That's not aesthetical IMO.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AnonymousPhotography In reply to DimensionSeven [2007-05-16 14:49:40 +0000 UTC]

I think I see what you're getting at, and maybe you're right, but if you kept the overall border thickness down.... I donno, but I do see what you're saying..... I run into that as well, but I dont fret about it as much yet, because I do not print from this site as of now.

soligor...

SOLIGOR?! you have to be kidding! i thought i was the only person in the whole world who owned anything made by soligor!

anyway, when i saw this, i thought "oop! grad nd filter." because i have a few shots like this (which, btw, aren't as good) and it made me think of grad nd filter. they're a thing of beauty.

BUT! i must always leave my critique. sometimes, the camera will expose for the sky, which can be too dark (when using grad nd), so often times, when using a grad ND filter, overexpose one or 2 stops (in this case, probably one because its so slight) but yeah. maybe dodging in GIMP or photoshop would help

anyway, yeah, awesome photo, i dont just hand out faves.

DimensionSeven In reply to isaacster39 [2007-05-15 09:41:24 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
There's nothing wrong with Soligor CPLs. They are slim and coated and relatively cheap.
However I did not really get the point about the ND filters and the exposure. With gradient filters always use manual exposure cause the lighting the sensor sees is uneve, therefore metering wont be reliable. (I prefer M mode anyways.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

isaacster39 In reply to DimensionSeven [2007-05-15 21:38:36 +0000 UTC]

exactly

i usually just take the cheap way out, go on P mode and set exposure comp down or up a stop or 2

wow this has amazing dept of field, seeming as it was photographed at f/8. The colours are gorgeous, very rich. And the fact that the person is so small really adds a feeling of perspective. Great shot

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DimensionSeven In reply to snapr [2007-05-14 17:46:28 +0000 UTC]

Why do you wonder that at 18 mm f8 gives a huge DOF? At wide angle DOF is always thick.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

snapr In reply to DimensionSeven [2007-05-14 19:22:49 +0000 UTC]

Just because f/8 is quite a shallow aperture is all. The wide angle lens i have is also not very good so maybe that it why. I shall have to look into getting a new one. Great work
