Character design commission for Aleph on Discord of their character, Kit.
Kit is experiencing a sort of Schrödinger’s cat-esque identity crisis. Both of them are Kit and they feel like they both could exist. But they aren’t sure which is the “real” one…or if there even is a “real” one.
For a bit more explanation, the commissioner came to me wanting both a male and female version of this character designed, because they weren’t sure what gender they wanted Kit to be, and Kit wasn’t sure either.
So I thought an interesting way to represent this identity struggle would be a sort of Schrödinger’s cat scenario where, from Kit’s perspective, both versions exist. Maybe they interchange with each other, maybe they simultaneously exist and interact with each other. And because the audience only sees things from Kit’s perspective, it’s unclear which one Kit appears as to the world, because it’s unclear to Kit which version they WANT to appear as.
I thought this was an interesting way to do it, and the commissioner agreed, so we ran with it.
