Description

Being unable to speak, young Juniper has instead become an exceptional listener. She's also much smarter than she looks. Of course, these two facts together mean that it was only a matter of time before she began to notice the strange behaviour of some of her elder packmates. There was an unspoken sadness that seems to hang around them, but no matter how hard she tried nobody seemed willing to tell her why.

Seeing the pup's confusion and intrigue, Elvar decides that Juniper deserves to know. One morning, he takes her down to the beaches by the Land's Tears, where he teaches her all about the ebb and flow of the tides - how the ocean advances and retreats in a rhythm, and how both states are needed for there to be balance in the world. Once he knows she understands that which she can observe, he proceeds to explain how, like the tides, the states of life and death push and pull at each other - all in perfect balance. He then tells her about the Island's fallen wolves, and how, although death is the natural step that comes after life, their loved ones may still mourn the loss of what was.

Somehow, Juniper thinks she understands that part too.

Or as this piece should be titled: "uncle elvar corrupts the next generation with his ideas of death"

also i realize that i forgot elvar's scars and his white leg stripeys but i'm too lazy to go back and add them so this'll have to do
