1. 2023 Israel - Hamas War:
As if Russia attacking Ukraine was bad enough, two more countries are now at war. Hamas leads an attack on Israel starting on October 7th which lead to both of them exchanging attacks. Hamas terrorists even kidnapped 240 innocent people as hostages. Some of the hostages remain in Hamas but others managed to be released.

2. Lahaina Fire:
On August 8th, a huge brushfire devastated the historic town of Lahaina on the Island Of Maui. With a combination of dry conditions and high winds from passing Hurricane Dora, the brush fire speared to the historic town. Residents had to evacuate and even film the flames while escaping. Sadly, 115 people perished in the flames and over estimated 2,170 acres of Lahaina burned with $4 billion in economic losses. Residents of Lahaina had to stay in hotels to find housing and even find new jobs as their businesses were lost in the flames. People all over the Hawaii State band to together to support those who lost everything in the wildfire providing essential supplies and rebuilding the businesses lost. It was a very tragic event that took place in Hawaii, but as long as everyone sticks together and support Lahaina residents, there would a better and stronger future for the rebuilding of the historic town.

3. Death of Kiska:
On March 9th, the world's loneliest orca, Kiska, had passed away at Marineland from a bacterial infection after living alone for over a decade. Kiska gained international headlines as the world's loneliest orca since she lives in total isolation at Marineland since 2011. She had five calves but tragically died young. Ever since then, Kiska swims alone in circles with no companions and even exhibiting behavior in which she lists motionless and started banging her head against the tank walls. Her tank became extremely dirty from years of neglected cleaning. Animal activists fought for Kiska's freedom for years ever since learning about Marineland's cruelty to animals but with Kiska's death, they now fight harder for the freedom of the many captive animals from Marineland.

4. Death of Tokitae (Lolita):
On August 18th, the second oldest orca in captivity, Lolita (native name, Tokitae) died from sudden renal failure after exhibiting signs of distress during her exercises while preparing to be released after half a century in captivity. Lolita was captured in August 8, 1970 and lived at the Miami Seaquarium since then. The only orca companion Lolita had was a male named Hugo. Hugo had been in captivity longer than her but was not liking captivity life. He would often bash his head against the wall until it finally killed him in 1980. The last companions Lolita would swim with up to her death were two Pacific white-sided dolphins, Li'i and Loke. For decades, people fought for Lolita's release from captivity and in 2022 under new management, she would retire from performing and undergo rehabilitation for release in a sanctuary in the native waters she was born from. Lolita's health would improve after doing exercises but on August 18, 2023, sudden renal failure took her life before being released. But in a way of returning to the ocean, she was cremated and her ashes would be spread in Puget Sound during a private ceremony. Even though Lolita didn't get to experience freedom while alive, she was finally released in the afterlife and would push even more forward for the release of captive cetaceans.

5. 2023 Prague Shooting:
4 days before Christmas, a 24-year old perpetrator opened fire at the Faculty of Arts building of Charles University in Jan Palach Square in central Prague, Czech Republic before turning on himself afterwards. 15 people were killed in the mass shooting and 25 were injured.

6. Death of Gordon Lightfoot:
On May 1st, famous Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot passed away at age 84. Lighfoot was known for his famous song from 1976 based on the last voyage of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald on November 10, 1975 called, "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald."

7. Death of Matthew Perry:
On October 28th, famous Friends actor, Matthew Perry tragically passed away at age 54 from, "acute effects of ketamine"

8. Death of Lisa Marie Presley:
On January 12th, the only child of Elvis Presley, Lisa Marie passed away at age 54 from a small bowel obstruction caused by adhesions that developed after a surgery years ago.

9. 2023 Monterey Park Shooting:
On January 21st, a gunman opened fire in Monterey Park, California at Star Ballroom Dance Studio and Lai Lai Ballroom during the Lunar New Year festival. 11 people were killed and 9 were injured. The gunman took his own life after a long standoff with police. The shooting would become the deadliest mass shooting in the history of Los Angeles County.

10. 2023 Allen, Texas Mall Shooting:
On May 6th, a mass shooting occurred at Allen Premium Outlets in Allen, Texas when a 33 year old far-right extremist named Mauricio Martinez Garcia wearing black tactical gear opened fire and killed 8 people with the youngest being a three year old, and injuring 7. The suspect would fatally shot by a police officer later on, ending his massacre.

11. Folly Creek Fire/Murder:
On July 2nd, a home caught on fire in Folly Creek, Virginia but it was quickly found out it was no ordinary house fire. There were seven victims involved but only a 13 year old juvenile survived with serious injuries. The 6 victims were murdered by stabbing and the burning of the house was likely used to get rid of the evidence. The suspect, Lenard Manigo was charged for multiple accounts of murder, arson, and sexual assault.

12. 2023 Kingsessing Shooting:
On July 2-3rd, a shooting spree occurred in the Kingsessing neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The shooter, Kimbrady Carriker killed five and injured two more before being taken into custody and charged with five counts of murder and six other accounts.

13. 2023 Lewiston Shooting:On October 25th, a 40 year old man named Robert Card opened fire at two locations in Lewiston, Maine which includes a bowling alley and restaurant. 18 people were killed and 13 others were injured. 2 days later, police find Card dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a tractor trailer near a recycling center in Lisbon, where he worked. The shooting is the tenth-deadliest in the U.S and the deadliest in the history of Maine.

14. Yeti Airlines Flight 691 Crash:
On January 15th, Yeti Airlines Flight 691 crashed while landing at Pokhara due to pilot error. Onboard were 68 passengers and 4 crew members, all of whom perished in the crash. It would be the deadliest accident involving a ATR 72.

15. 2023 Belgrade School Shooting:
On May 3rd, a school shooting occurred at Valdislav Ribnikar Model Elementary School in the Vracar municipality of Belgrade, Serbia. The shooter was a 13 year old male student and the shooting resulted in ten deaths and injuring six others. Because of his age, the student could not face legal charges but his parents would face charges including acts against public safety and child neglect. Another mass shooting would occur a day later and cause mass protests across the country.

16. San Andreas Mercenaries DLC for GTA Online:
The first DLC of 2023 but also one of the worst updates for GTA Online. San Andreas Mercenaries introduces new missions for Project Overthrow where players take down Merryweather and acquire new equipment like new tech for the Mammoth Avenger and a new jet called the F-160 Raju. Despite all the cool stuff, the DLC also made fans angry including removing certain vehicles from auto websites, and nerfing the Cayo Perico heist once again with longer cool down times, and value of the loot and main target reduced.
