Description Happy Valentine's day!

I really had a hard time choosing which angle was better, but here is the original angle www.cosmicdeathray.com/originfx/custom/ap2.jpg . Use whichever you like the most.

This is a 3D version of 's image "Almost Perfect", which you can find at this [link] . Check out her website at www.agilerobot.com Of course, all creative credits go to her!

I haven't been able to make many renders lately because I've been so busy, but I couldn't let this holiday pass me by . I promise I'll not be busy in a couple weeks, I'll be cranking out renders like I used to once my website is up!

Technical Details

Made in Maya, rendered in Mental Ray. Maya ramp shader used on the heart, as well as on the paint brush. Ambient occlusion used on the brush handle and threads to bring out that detail in the tiny cracks and crevaces. Regular lambert shader used on the dude and the ground. Lit with one invisible and very large area light, and also with final gathering from the heart and dark red environment. Render time was about 2 hours.

Here is some shots from the viewport: www.cosmicdeathray.com/originfx/custom/apshot1.jpg www.cosmicdeathray.com/originfx/custom/apshot2.jpg www.cosmicdeathray.com/originfx/custom/apshot3.jpg

[[EDIT]] Losslessly compressed PNG version at this www.cosmicdeathray.com/originfx/custom/ap.png , and a version without the glow at this www.cosmicdeathray.com/originfx/custom/apng.jpg

I really like the concept behind this; how we all try to make relationships perfect. The glow gives a lovely warm effect and gives the figure a lesser significance, also highlighted by the size and colour juxtaposed to the heart.

Great piece. The only thing I wish is that you could have included the sparklies from the original drawing. That would have been cool. Other than that I love it. You are added to my :+favorite:

I love the contrast between the dark background and the vibrantly colored heart. The shadows created by this effect make it even more stunning. In this way it displays the perfect Valentine's Day mood--for me at least. And the heart--I wish I could touch that surface, it looks beautiful. Well done, mate.

I've saved it to use for my desktop sometime.

You know my passion for 3D stuff. I tried a while ago and failed miserably. Who else should I look at?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DivineError In reply to Davenit [2005-02-15 22:46:20 +0000 UTC]

Yikes, that will be hard, there are a LOT of 3D artists out there. For peopel on DA, I suggest . There are of course many more out there, but these were the only ones that came to mind at the time of writing this. If you want to see more professional work, I suggest you take a look at cgtalk.com's gallery [link] , a lot of the professionals (like the people who work on movies and stuff) visit that site on a regular basis. Also check out the Art gallery at [link] , and maybe even [link] 's 3D gallery.

You say you tried and failed? Maybe I could convince you to try again... the way I set up my glass scenes are litterally identical to how you would set up a photo. The Mental Ray renderer was written to be physically accurate, the light behaves identicaly to how real life light works (inverse squared fallof etc). I set up bright large cubes for reflections and to light the scene, which would be similar to one of those big rectangular studio lights. You can actually make a real life scene in 3d, and then have it render the exact same way, as long as you know what you are doing. If you want, I could probably teach you my technique in under a week, and I would be glad to. Just let me know.
