Description

USGI flight boots made in 1990 by Addison Shoe Company (Wynne, Arkansas, USA) under military contract from the Department of Defense. These footwear were issued to the aircrews (flight personnel) of US Army, Navy, Air Force (where they were known as FWU-3/P) and Marine Corps. They have a steel protective reinforcement in the toe which protects the foot from falling objects or compression. They also features a light insulation composed of a thin foam layer between the outer leather and the glove leather lining. Appeared for the first time in the '60s, the FWU-3/P was a long-serving and widely used piece of equipment. In the early 2000 it was still standard issue along with the updated FWU-8/P version and more contemporary boots like the Belleville 700 series (700, 770 & 790).

In the army, FWU-3/P were authorized for aircrewmembers in climatic area V (warm or hot summers [more than 20 degrees Celsius] and cold or very cold winters [under 0 degrees Celsius]).
